MOOCs Gather Momentum

Posted in Government on by Admin

Press reports this week reveal the speed with which UK universities are embracing the MOOC revolution. Over 20 universities are developing MOOCs with the Open University for an Autumn 2013 start. MOOCs have far exceeded enrolment predictions in the USA, and there is good reason to believe this will happen here.  Edinburgh University signed up over 300,000 students on a pilot MOOC in 2012. MOOCs typically attract mature learners, but there are significant issues, for example very low completion rates and the question of tutor support. MOOCs are the subject of the UALL AGM and Seminar on 21 November 2013:  MOOCs (Massive Open Online Course). What are the implications for the lifelong learning community - providers and students?
