Mary Mahoney
Dr Mary Mahoney is the Head of Lifelong Learning at the University of Wolverhampton and also established the university’s Centre for Lifelong Learning. She leads on a range of strategic initiatives focused on putting learning at the heart of communities and on the role that learning can play in economic and social development.
Dr Mahoney is passionate about ensuring that adults have the chance to continue or re-enter learning at any time during their lives. She has established the model for taking learning into communities by working in partnership with other learning providers.
Since joining the university, Dr Mahoney has created three Regional Learning Centres, including University Centre Telford, University of Wolverhampton in Stafford and the new Black Country Studies Centre (in partnership with the Black Country Living Museum). She has also driven the development of the Wolverhampton Region Learning City initiative to gain UNESCO learning city status and is the lead for the University’s Public and Community Engagement work.
Dr Mahoney has a research background focused on the role of education and learning in health and wellbeing. She has an extensive track record in leadership in teaching, research and knowledge exchange and has worked in higher education in Australia, England and Wales.
