
Our Awards Scheme recognises and celebrates projects, programmes and practices that promote lifelong learning in the university sector.
The Awards Scheme
The UALL Awards Scheme was established in the early 2000s to give organisation a chance to recognise and celebrate the work of our talented colleagues in Lifelong Learning. The Awards is an annual occurrence ending at our Annual Conference with the Awards Ceremony.
The Standing Conference on University Teaching and Research in the Education of Adults SCUTREA) and the Universities Association for Lifelong Learning (UALL) June 7th - 9th 2022 conference is hosted by the University of Glasgow’s Centre for Research & Development in Adult and Lifelong Learning (CR&DALL). The European Society for Research on the Education of Adults (ESREA) are holding a preconference on June 6th, organised by their Migration, Transnationalism and Racisms Network on ‘Contextualising racism and migration: time, place and generational perspectives in anti-racist praxis’.
For details of the submission requirements for ESREA please visit: https://esrea.org/networks/migration-transnationalism-and-racisms/ At this collaborative conference, bringing together practitioners, activists, policy makers and academics from across the globe, we will be looking forward, as well as marking significant milestones – in particular the 50th anniversary of SCUTREA. The focus of the conference is on research, practice and policy with innovation at its heart.

Category One - Innovation
recognising innovations and/or creative initiatives that seek to expand Lifelong Learning within the UK
Category Two - Sustainability
this recognises creative Lifelong Learning initiatives with provne impact and sustainability
Category Three - Research
this award recognises specific research or evidence-based activitiy that promotes the significance of Lifelong Learning
Category Four - Partnerships (including international).
this recognises innovative engagement, including partnerships that create change in an international or transnational contexts
In addition, we are adding a new category
Covid-19 Pandemic Response: we are seeking to recognise innovation specifically related to lifelong learning and adult education during the pandemic in two categories: Individual and Team.
Application process
The submission is based on a maximum of 1000 words and can include suitable images and/ or weblinks as appropriate for your submission. Applications should be sent to the UALL Administrator at admin@uall.ac.uk
The Awards ceremony is held annually at the formal dinner of our Annual Conference.

2018 This was the first year where we incorporated four categories. This was so we could recognise the wide range of work across the sector and to increase equity of opportunity.

- Sustainability: Foundation Centre, Durham University: The Foundation Centre
- International: University of Huddersfield: CADRE (Collaborative Action towards Disaster Resilience Education): An innovative partnership that created change in an international context
