After the election of a Conservative Government, what does this mean for lifelong learning?

The outcome of the recent election shows that UK voters are more in favour of a Conservative Government than any of the alternatives presented.   What does this mean to life in general and to lifelong learning in particular?  In the coming months the answer to this question will become clearer.   However, all involved in education need to be vociferous in ensuring that key issues are kept on the agenda - we need to be proactive rather than reactive.  We need to lobby MPs, write letters, publish articles - and encourage our students to do the same - which demonstrate that education is a key social as well as economic good:  the wider benefits of learning - keeping connected, contributing to communities, participating in civic life -  must be acknowledged, alongside the economic needs fulfilled by the education system.  We need to keep delivering this message loud and clear."
